You can check in online for your JetBlue flight up to 24 hours before departure or at the JetBlue counter in the airport. Special considerations are taken into account for children, including the age of the child and whether he is an unaccompanied minor. When you book your child’s flight, JetBlue provides you with a list of special provisions regarding the rules for flying with children or sending unaccompanied minors on the flight.
Infants, or any children younger than 2 who are not ticketed passengers, are not required to check in for flights because they do not have a ticket. If your child is an unticketed infant, he sits on your lap in your seat. While check-in for your unticketed child is not necessary, you are required to list your child as an unticketed passenger when you book your ticket. When you check yourself in, whether online or in person at the airport, you will receive a boarding pass with your child’s name on it simply for the airline’s records.
Unaccompanied minors are defined as children ages of 5 to 13 who are traveling without an adult. To check in your unaccompanied minor, you must appear in person with your child at the JetBlue ticketing counter in the airport on the day of departure. You must present photo identification for yourself and provide your cellphone number, home phone number and your home address. A birth certificate is required for your child to check in. You are required to check in your child, check his luggage in and request a gate pass for yourself if necessary, which allows you special access into the airport terminal without a ticket. You can walk your child to his gate and watch as he boards the flight and takes off.
Children younger than 5 are not permitted to travel as unaccompanied minors, and children 14 or older are no longer considered unaccompanied minors when traveling alone. If you are flying with a child younger than 5 who has her own seat or your child 14 or older is flying alone, the check-in process is the same as it is for any other person. You can check in your child online 24 hours before departure, or you can use the JetBlue counter at the airport. Your 14-year-old can check in alone at the desk if you opt to go that route, and all that’s needed for check-in is a birth certificate.
To check in online, you need your flight number, confirmation number and last name. You can print your own boarding pass and bypass the JetBlue Airlines check-in desks to head straight for security. Unaccompanied minors are the only children not permitted to bypass the JetBlue check-in desk when checking in online before a flight.
