IP welcomes Yuval Lion to its Artist Family
Yuval Lion has toured and recorded with some of the world's most distinguished rock, pop, R&B, and jazz artists including Chrissie Hynde, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Trixie Whitley, Meshell Ndgeocello, Chocolate Genius, Lionel Louek, Marc Ribot, John Zorn, and Moroccan singer Hyndi Zahra. A native of Tel Aviv, Lion has toured and recorded with Israel's top artists including Danny Sanderson, Alon Olearchik, Danny Litany, Eran Tzur, Korin Alal, and Batsheva Dance Company. He has appeared on numerous prime time television shows backing up Israel's top artists and bands. &After receiving a scholarship from the Berklee College of Music, he relocated to Boston in 1997. He is currently based in New York City where he is in high demand as a session drummer.
Multi-talented Percussionist Randy Gloss joins IP
Randy Gloss, a protégé of renowned percussion vanguard John Bergamo, and a percussionist whose background performing several modalities of hand drums, contemporary percussion, and drum set, has led to his involvement in many innovative ensembles that fuse world music with new music and jazz. Most notable is Hands On'Semble, a percussion quartet devoted to the art of hand drumming created by John Bergamo in 1997 (with Randy Gloss, Andrew Grueschow, and Austin Wrinkle).
Hands On'Semble has performed and lectured throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia at many of the world's premier percussion and world music festivals, music schools and conservatories, and have collaborated in performance and recording with a wide array of highly esteemed percussion artists.
IP welcomes "Papayo"&to its Artist Family
Manuel "Papayo" Corao maps where he's been and where he's going next with On the Road, the Venezuelan-born singer-songwriter's second independent release. The Miami-based artist wrote the album over four years, recording its 11 songs during rare breaks from his high-profile gig playing percussion with Pitbull on the international superstar's never-ending world tour. "I recorded whenever and wherever I could," he explains. "When I had the time, I made it count." The track listing reads like an atlas, pairing the song title with city where it was written. "The best part of traveling around the world is that I get to hear so many different kinds of music," Papayo says. "I soak up as much as I can." &Written on the move, the album reflects that kinetic energy by covering a lot of ground musically.

Innovative Percussion will display "New Products for 2015" in addition to a full complement of keyboard mallets and drum sticks at the NAMM Show held in the Anaheim Convention Center, CA, January 22-25.

BR-CW&CHAD WACKERMAN PAINTBRUSH The BR-CW Chad Wackerman Paintbrush provides the player with a number of different choices of timbre colors. Built on a red hickory wooden handle, this retractable medium gauge wire brush features a soft rubber sleeve near the brush fan and a strip of felt surrounding the butt end. Review:"This unaccompanied work for the advanced four-mallet marimbist is divided into five rather short movements. The movement titles— "Thalamus," "Amygdala," "Cortex," "Medula" and "Hypothalamus" refer to parts of the brain and the gray matter surrounding the parts that help control one's senses, movement, metabolic rate, body temperature, etc.

Review:This three-movement work contains compositional techniques that are classic Kopetzki. The first movement, "echoes… still again," begins with a slow tempo. Using rhythmically complex motives, imitative ideas between the instrumentalists create an echo effect. "Rhythms…fall silent" has a quasi-cadenza quality and features the clarinet. Multiple percussion material supports the clarinet with soft, intricate ideas. Loud, disruptive outbursts occur between clarinet statements. A Kopetzki composition is not complete without a dance-like groove. The final movement, "Time…in love," unifies the performers with a syncopated marimba accompaniment that lays the foundation for the clarinet melody.
