More than 65 years have passed since the first Ford F-Series was introduced. This iconic pickup truck line is a perennial best seller and for 2015 Ford aims to maintain its po&sition by introducing two new engines including a smaller, yet powerful EcoBoost engine.
The Chrysler 200 is a midsize sedan, a front-wheel drive model with available all-wheel drive. New for 2015, the current iteration is based on a platform that underpins the co&mpact Dodge Dart as well as the Jeep Cherokee SUV. The 200S is available in four trim levels and is priced from $21,700.The previous generation Chrysler 200 was produced from 2011 to 2014. That sedan represented a significant update over the earlier Chrysler Sebring and was also available as a two-door convertible. Beginning with the 2015 edition, only the sedan remains.Buyers can choose four editions beginning with the standard LX followed by the Limited ($23,255), the 200S ($24,495) and the 200C ($25,995). The standard motor is a 184-horsepower 2.4-liter four cylinder engine making 173 foot-pounds of torque. Also available is a segment-leading 295-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 engine making 262 foot-pounds of torque. Both engines are paired with an industry exclusive 9-speed automatic transmission.Five people can sit comfortably in the 2015 Chrysler 200. Chrysler supplied a 200S edition for this review, outfitted with the base engine and front-wheel drive.The latest 200 offers a marked improvement over the previous model and is arguably Chrysler's best effort to date in producing a midsize model. The 2015 edition debuts the new "face" for the brand, one that will show up on other brand models as they are updated. The sedan's fascia is sleek, but firm and this model projects an athletic stance and coupe-like lines. Its roof line flows back to the rear deck with a notched trunk. The 200S features LED daytime running lights, LED fog lamps and standard LED tail lights. Integrated dual exhausts, 19-inch aluminum wheels and special paint schemes are among the more noticeable exterior distinctives.Inside, Chrysler designed a cabin that is bright, roomy and comfortable, marked by state-of-the-art technologies, engineering and lighting. Chrysler says that it took inspiration from contemporary and historical themes for the design, including an Apple iPhone, Airstream travel trailer and an Eames lounge chair to present a look that is pleasing.Standard equipment across the model line includes keyless entry, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, steering wheel mounted controls, air conditioning, power door locks, power windows and illuminated sun visors. The Chrysler 200 is also outfitted with two 12-volt outlets, a USB port, a UConnect audio system, cloth bucket seats, a split-folding rear seat with a pass through to the trunk, cargo tie downs and safety features.The Chrysler 200S raises the amenities bar to bring in a more refined interior with special trim and accents. This model also receives a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an upgraded UConnect infotainment system with color display, cloth sport seating with leather trim, a one-year SiriusXM satellite subscription and a sport suspension system for improved handling.The standard engine provides adequate power, matching what most cars in this class offer. The new 9-speed transmission shifts smoothly and 35 mpg is attainable for highway driving.The center console on the 200S was designed by Faurecia, what provides excellent storage for your electronic devices with connectivity at hand. It is a clever arrangement that includes cup holders, additional storage areas and a pass-through section.Chrysler has one of the best infotainment systems on the market in its UConnect. The layout is sensible, easy to view and configure, with switches and knobs also at the ready.To get such features as a 115-volt outlet and adaptive cruise control, you need to choose extra-cost Premium Group and SAFETYTEC packages. However, these highly desirable packages are only available with the top-of-the-line 200C edition.Although highway fuel mileage is good there are models equipped with six-speed transmissions that deliver slightly better fuel economy. Some engineering tweaking down the line might raise fuel economy by 10 percent or more.
